Converting HTMLZ to pdf

Hi,
I've been having trouble converting a kindle book to a pdf file that's more annotateable. I started with a .azw topaz file, which I used the DeDrm program to convert to a HTMLZ file. This file works fine in Calibre, and I've converted this file to an epub without problems. However, when I try to convert this file to a pdf, I get a pdf with empty boxes instead of figures. Can anyone give me suggestions for how I might do this conversion or how I might annotate an epub (e.g., draw in it)?
