auto convert fails

Whenever I send a book to my "Kindle Voyage", allowing autoconvert, I get an error message "No suitable format". Sometimes Calibre locks up after the error message.
Manually converting epub to mobi works fine. I cant find any setting in the preferences to tell caliber to always convert to mobi for a kindle.

Hello everyone,
I have an issue I've been dealing with for hours now and I completely don't know what to do anymore.

I have a couple of pdf books (very obscure, scanned, with no other formats available) and I've been trying to convert them into .mobi for a 2016 basic Kindle. I convert because PDFs on Kindle tend to stop working after two dozens of pages or so.

When I convert and view it on the Kindle, I am getting random blank pages approximately every 1-3 pages. For example page 25, blank, page 26, page 27, blank.

It's horribly infuriating and after going through the settings I don't know what's wrong anymore. Most of the PDFs don't contain any text, it's usually only a scanned picture per page.

I have tried .azw3 but when I go through a few pages, the Kindle errors and asks me to redownload the file. I can't open .epub and can't use the send by e-mail function either since it's a borrowed Kindle and I don't have access to the account. :freak:

I leave the default settings except the pages I attached to the post where I changed some things (default settings produced blank pages too).

Any help is greatly appreciated, the fact I only need a sequence of images with no text made me wonder if I should try creating a comic book archive and then try converting to .mobi but I don't know how much time it would take and if there's an easier option (or preferably something wrong with my settings :uhoh:).

Problems converting Ebook

Hello,

I used Calibre in the past to convert ebooks into the MOBI format to put it onto my kindle voyage but have not used it in a while. Now that I just wanted to convert another ebook the way I used to I always seem to get an error.

I also tried deinstalling ans reinstalling calibre including the addons/plugins - but I have not been successful so far.

It would be great if you could point me in a direction as I wasn't able to find the right solution in this forum so far.

Does Calibre ruin the epub formatting?

I'm planning to get a 2016 Paperwhite soon, it's my first e-reader ever. I've read that you can use Calibre to convert epubs to the kindle's format, however I'm afraid that the formatting in the epub book (spacing, content pages, etc) will be ruined/screwed up. I've read quite a number of books that had their words spaced out weirdly and formats a little wonky, presumably due to bad conversion. Wondering if that will be the same on Calibre, or am I better off buying books on Amazon instead? I have tons of epub books on my computer so I'm hoping that they can be read on the kindle, too.

3.34 calibre-debug runs the script code under Python 3

Have old Python 2.7 script written in year 2013. It used to run under calibre-debug for five years. However, update to 3.34 began to throw syntax errors in all print commands in this script. Enclosing print operands in parenthesis in accordance with Python 3 standard helped.
I have 32- and 64-bit Python 2.7 and 3.4 installed on Windows 10 machine.
Bare command "Python" invokes Python 3.4.
Still, my unmodified original script runs OK under Calibre 3.31.
Is it possible that 3.34 calibre-debug in my environment somehow runs scripts under Python 3?

Left and Right margin issue

I'm trying to convert a book from Mobi to AZW3. The left and right margins are much wider than normal, meaning I get less text on the page. I've tried removing margins, removing fake margins, and setting left and right margins to 0. What
am I doing wrong?

Use CSS sheet in conversion

Hi,

I have some raw text files that I want to convert to epub (they will be easier to read on my tablet).

Is there a way to use a sspecific CSS file in the conversion, instead of what seemed to be hardcoded calibre* classes? I don't want to search and replace the generated files to change the styles afterwards, if I can help it.

EPUB to AZW3: font sizes changed

I notice that when converting EPUBs to AZW3, the original font sizes are changed. Comparing the CSS in the original EPUB to that in the generated AZW3, I see that 1em remains as 1em, but 2em becomes 1.5 em, 1.5em becomes 1.375em, 1.2em becomes 1.125em...

Is there anything I can do to get the output font sizes to match the original sizes?

Conversion Going For Over 24 Hours

Attempting to convert a epub file to mobi. The original file is 5.0MB.

Tried several times and it stalled around 47% before cancelling. Then decided to let it keep going overnight and woke to find it was at 67%. It's now been going for 1 day and 11 hours and is still at 67%.

Lrf to AZW3?

I used to use my Sony prs 505 a lot more than I do now. The frontlight on my Paperwhite is necessary for reading in my dimly-lit house. I used to convert to old lrf files to mobi. Can I convert them to AZW3 in order to use custom fonts? Or should I do a work-round via epub?

There won't be an issue with DRM.

Blank Pages with Calibre

Hello,

Has anyone has issues with blanking pages in EPUB after a conversion with Calibre of late? This is an issue that only recently started for me, and for the life of me, I cannot understand why. If I have a large image, a blank page follow. So I try not to use any. But now whenever I convert to EPUB random blank pages pop up. No matter how many times I replace the page breaks or adjust the formatting, they don't disappear. I am at a loss now for what else to do. Is this a bug with Calibre now or something.

This ONLY happens with EPUBs.

Now that Amazon allows custom fonts to be installed on Kindles, how do I configure Calibre so that I can read The Economist, fetched from the website, in my favourite fonts? I went through the settings but can't seem to get it to work.

I am converting an EPUB to PDF. The text has line numbers within it, enclosed in square brackets. Here is an example:

Is it possible, while doing the conversion, to get Calibre to make a copy of the line numbers, and place these numbers in the margins. So to best approximation in text editor we might get something like this:

Am getting a conversion error on an Amazon book I just bought. Wanted to convert it to .mobi for my mom's Kindle (I bought it for her) but am getting a conversion error:

[MacOS] Help, using shell script and ebook-convert, hazel

Hi Calibre-Community,

I have a question about using the ebook-convert program from calibre in a shell script – as I am a total noob to shell scrips, maybe someone here can help me? :help: I am eager to learn and would be very thankful!

So I am using hazel on a mac to automate certain folders. Within one of the folders I want to have an automatic conversion from ePub to pdf. I stumbled over a very useful shell script in the internet, which can be used directly in hazel:

This works pretty well: it makes a pdf and puts it in a "convert" folder. But now I want to tweak the PDF to a certain size, add page numbers, set margins etc...

So I found the commands for the ebook-convert app from calibre:

But how can I include for example

to the shell script above? And how do I set the hight and the width?

Conversion EPUB to PDF failed

Hi,
I converted several EPUB to PDF, all with the same settings, without any Problem. There's only 1 EPUB that failed to convert.
I found several Links to solve the Problem, but nothing usefull.
Maybe someone who can help me?

hello

new person to ebooks (within the last 3 months). and new to calibre and conversions. Although I feel this may be a more common question than I know, I will ask it anyhow and hope for some mercy because of the newbie status.

I have recently purchased 2 epub books that are art related - they are roughly 26mb and 16mb in size. Although they work on my iBooks app, there are features that I like in my kindle app that I have used a little more - page color and font size in particular. these are features that I cannot access in iBooks with these 2.

I am currently trying to convert to mobi, and I am reaching hour 20 as I am typing. which seems excessive to me but again I do not know. My MacBook Pro is from 2011 - so I do not know if that is contributing as well.

any help, suggestions with what to expect or if this is a problem would be greatly appreciated

Convert to mobi results in incorrect Chapter Heading

I re-installed Calibre on my new computer and I am having a problem with Chapter numbering inside mobi ebooks. It is possible that I fixed something many years ago on my old computer that I need to fix again on this computer. If anyone can advise, I would appreciate your help.

When I convert any document - docx, odt, epub, azw3, txt - to mobi format my chapter headings in the book will display with a leading number:
1. Chapter 1
2. Chapter 2

When I convert to any other format, the chapter numbers will display correctly without the leading number:
Chapter 1
Chapter 2

There is nothing different in the conversion screen [Metadata, Look & Feel, Heuristic processing, etc.]

I can't figure out how to prevent the leading numbers from the Chapter heading. As i wrote, this did not happen on my old computer, but it is happening every time on this new machine. That leads me to believe that I set something incorrectly.
