CBZ Folder Sorting

I have a CBZ Manga that contains multiple folders of images. It reads just fine, but messes up the sorting, so I end up having one chapter out of order. Omake are listed as in-between chapters, so I have it in folder "Chapter 06.5", but it sorts it BEFORE "Chapter 06". Anyway at all to fix this?

How to convert multiple epub chapters into a single azw3 book

$

First, my apologies if this is an oft-asked question. If it is, a link would be MUCH appreciated.
A book has been posted online for free reading. It is called You Are Here, available on pubpub.org
They allow each separate chapter to be downloaded in a variety of formats, including docx, html, and epub.
I want to take the several chapters (with quite unhelpful file names!) and turn them into a single book.
As a last resort I know I can download the DOCX files, just add them together and then convert the concatenated file.
Is there an easier way to create a single azw3 file from the epub chapters?

mobi - missing covers on Kindle? works when converted

$

Hi,

I'm struggling with one thing - I've bought a bunch of books, and can download them in various formats. Since I'm using Kindle Voyage, I'm downloading them in *.mobi format so that I can send them directly to my kindle e-mail address.
When I do though, for 80% of those books, the cover does not appear when transferred to my Kindle.

I have raised the issue with the online store, and I know they're working on it - trying different approaches, but not much has changed.

I thought about trying to troubleshoot it myself. I've loaded those downloaded books to Calibre, and just converted them from *mobi to *mobi. Once done, I've send the new files to Kindle... and - all the covers are now visible in both Kindle Voyage (and Kindle for iPad). Unfortunately, the books also lost some spacing, minor formatting, etc., that I didn't really want to change.
I am now trying to figure out how to use Calibre to correct/re-embed the covers to the mobile files, without changing anything about it's structure. I've tried to "Save the book to device", I've tried editing the metadata and saving the same cover I've had to the same file - no luck.

Any ideas what I could do to fix it?
All I'd like to achieve is to re-embed the cover in a mobile file, without changing the book's layout/formatting.

Just updated Calibre to 5.4.2 and the conversion to KEPUB has stopped working because the DRM has not been removed.

I haven't changed anything, but this is the debug file.

epub2pdf, line-spacing and footnotes

hi, I want to convert epub2pdf with calibre and I set line-spacing to 170% which fits perfectly to the main content. But this setting applies to footnotes as well and they are printed partially on the next page which doubles pages count. Is there a possibility to have a different line-spacing for footnotes. Many thx, Burkhard from Germany:help:

H20 justification issue

$

Forgive me as I am not sure which forum to post this in. I have a book that I transferred from kindle to my H20 using Calibre.

One problem I see is that I cannot change the justification of the book on the H20. It always stays set with right justification. On the kindle you can switch it back and forth to what you want.
Am I missing something?

Polish Cover didn't quite work

Hello,

I normally use the Polish feature in calibre to update the cover image in the ebook. This has worked rather well in the past.

Today when I used "Polish" "update the cover in book file" the cover image doesn't appear correctly in Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.8.

Here is the code from the Calibre "Edit Book" for the cover image prior to using "Polish."

Code:

<body epub:type="frontmatter">
<div class="cover" id="cover">
<img alt="image" src="../images/9780062941473_Cover.jpg"/>
</div>
</body>

This is the code after using "Polish" update cover image.

Code:

 <body>
        <div>

<svg version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"
width="100%" height="100%"
viewBox="0 0 1350 2040" preserveAspectRatio="none">

<image width="1350" height="2040" xlink:href="../images/cover.jpg"/>
            </svg>
        </div>
    </body>

I've attached a screenshot of what this cover looks like in Adobe Digital Editions. The cover looked fine in "Edit Book" and in the Calibre "Viewer" so I'm not sure what went wrong with Digital Editions.

I'd appreciate any and all help in solving this mystery.

Best Regards,
Amalthia

Converting jpeg right-to-left landscape pages to EPUB

$

Hi everyone,

I did a bit of digging, but couldn't find anything on this. I am not sure if it's an issue or my lack of understanding how Calibre works.

Basically I have a cbr file with a bunch of jpeg files inside that I am converting to EPUB. Each jpeg file is a landscape page (2 pages in one jpeg) that are meant to be read right to left (the right page first, the left page second). Calibre splits the landscape file into two pages/pictures, which I like, but it uses the left half as the first page and the right half as the second.

Question: How can I tell Calibre to order the pages correctly (either during conversion or after) - using the right half of the page as the first page in the pair?

Manually rearranging pages (drag and drop is all I know) in the editor is not an option due to a large number of pages.

Thank you in advance.

Convert all math formulas to images

Hello,
I have many technical ebooks (epub, mobi) containing many math formulas.
In calibre for mac I can mostly read these formula correctly but when I transfer this same file (same format, already converted) to my kindle paperwhite (1st gen) many formula are not correctly rendered.

I'm quite sure this is a limitation of my kindle version, so nothing to be done there, I guess.

I was wondering if does it exist a converting procedure or a plugin that could convert all the math formulas into images in order to be correctly visualized in the reader.

Thanks in advance

CBR to PDF Ibook Help

Hi, I am trying to convert some comics I have in cbr/cbz to pdf so I can put them all on Ibooks.

I have an Ipad Original, yes the first one. Since I can no longer do much with it, I am transforming it in my comics library, and I really don't like to have to open one app for books, one for pdfs, and another for comics. I want to have everything in the same place. It's also very hard to find a comic reader for ios5, so if I make them all pdfs I can solve my problem.

I know how to make the conversion, but when I open the file it won't display in the whole screen. I have some comics I got on Humble Bundle that fill up the screen when I open, but the ones I am converting now shows a border around the page that is a no go.

I imagine this is easily fixed with some minor configuration, but I don't know how.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks in advance.

Calibre on ReactOS issue converting.

Hello:
I don't want to obtain support of Calibre 2.0.0 for ReactOS 32 bits, but I want to know what failed in ReactOS to not behave like it did on Windows XP. I'm not developer, but I'm interested on technologies and I feel curiosity. And I wanted to know more info that could help to de developers to know where is the failure (a library or the whole Windows SMP).

I get a little error BT when I tried to convert, for example, EPUB to MOBI (happens with every format):

Python function terminated unexpectedly
invalid load key, '
'. (Error Code: 1)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site.py", line 132, in main
File "site.py", line 109, in run_entry_point
File "site-packages\calibre\utils\ipc\worker.py", line 185, in main
File "site-packages\calibre\utils\ipc\__init__.py", line 19, in eintr_retry_call
cPickle.UnpicklingError: invalid load key, '
'.

I think this keeps me to read the worker.py, and it's multiprocessing (not supported on ReactOS), but I would like to know which is the function involved (is spawn?).

I'll understand if anyone want to bring me any support, but if you do. :thanks: Really, really much.

Issues removing DRM on Big Sur & Calibre DeDRM Kindle for Mac

Hello...
I just got a Mac mini M1 running Big Sur. I attempted to create the same setup that I had on my MacBook Pro running Catalina:
Kindle for Mac 1.26.1
deDRM 6.8
Calibre 4.23

I remembered to run:
chmod -x /Applications/Kindle.app/Contents/MacOS/renderer-test
right after installing Kindle for Mac and turned off auto-updates (but before registering and connecting it to my Amazon account).

DRMs won't remove on any book from my Amazon library. I've checked and double checked that Kindle for Mac has remained at version 1.26.1.

Has anyone had any luck with a Big Sur install? If so, what versions of the above are you running?

CBR images converted to greyscale in EPUB/AZW3 converted files

Hi, I'm new here, so I hope you can forgive me for posting a question that may have been answered before.

I'm currently finishing a two-page article on Calibre for the leading Swiss magazine on print and digital publishing (publisher.ch).

Personally, I've used Calibre only for my own purposes and thought (and still think) this is an amazing piece of work. However, as someone who doesn't consume comics, I wasn't aware of Calibre's capability to open and convert comic books file formats. Since I wrote an article on Krita (https://publisher.ch/2018/02/05/mehr...malwerkzeug-2/) for the magazine, I thought that would be an interesting aspect for the readers.

So I downloaded a CBR file and converted it to EPUB only to discover that all colour images in the ZIP container had been converted to greyscale.

Hence my question: Is this a bug or a feature?

Help needed converting EPUB to MOBI

I have an EPUB file exported from InDesign that I can't get Calibre to convert to MOBI. Every time Calibre gets 47% finished in a few seconds and then just stops there and does nothing but spin its wheels. I don't get an error message. Calibre just keeps running endlessly.

Here is where Calibre stops (on the line "Removing fake margins"):

mobi not updating from edited epub

$

I'm an indie author and build my own ebooks. I encountered a strange problem in converting an epub to mobi.

After conversion, I realized a couple html links were incorrect. I edited the epub w/ editor and put in the correct links, saved the changes in editor, and then converted it to mobi.

When I preview the files, the epub shows the updated links, but the mobi still shows the old links.

I've gone into the calibre library and removed the earlier mobi version, and done the epub -> mobi conversion again. And the 'new' mobi still shows the old links, even though the epub has the correct ones.

I'm pretty much banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out.

In addition, my files are all showing up now in the wrong folder (an earlier version of the book) even though the two versions have slightly different filenames.

Could use some help with this. Thanks!

MS Word Header Styles Conversion to EPUB

$

This question is in general, not about a specific document.
My 'document' is completely formatted using Styles in MS Word.
.

I am trying to figure out how to set up a style, so it gets converted into a header style in the EPUB file. As Headers are the only thing that get brought into the TOC in Sigil.
.
Attached is the Style setup I currently have.
.
Can this be achieved during the conversion, or do I need to fix it in Sigil?
.
Thanx for the assist. :cool:
