help with series information

Hello,

I am new to this forum and fairly new to Calibre. I have a question I’m hoping someone here might know something about. I’ve tried to search the forum, but without success, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question or if it’s already been asked somewhere.

I have quite a few Kindle books, but I’d like to be able to read them on my Kobo, so I’m using Calibre to convert them. I’ve installed the KePub Input and Output plugins and tried converting the first couple of books. They are part of a series, and the series information is in the metadata for the books.
When I sent the books to my Kobo, they are mostly ok, but my question is about the series information. In the list of books on my Kobo, I can see the series information. But when I go to the series tab, they don’t appear. Neither does the series they belong to. Does anyone know why that is? And if there is anything I can do about it? I’m not even sure if this is something to do with the conversion, or something to do with Kobo, so I apologise if I’ve put this question in the wrong place.

I am using Windows 7, Calibre 3.48, and Kobo Glo HD if it helps to know that.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Questions about zip conversion

Previously in calibre I was able to convert to jpeg when I chose to convert from epub to zip. But now when I choose to convert from epub to zip, it's still epub inside. Please let me know how I can convert to jpeg again.

sorry. I translated this sentence, so there may be something strange.

*.docx Graphics conversion

I have a novel with several embedded illustrations and I am wondering about Calibre's image handling abilities. I have converted my doxc source to epub many times, but only recently have I begun to modify the embedded images in Word (2013) with the image formatting tools in MSWord. Things like image fading, transparency, soft edges. Calibre imports the source document and chhurns out an epub that can't be opened. For instance; FBReader Premium says; "No plugin found to open this document with." When I remove all the image formatting the document gets converted to epub and opens with no problem. I assume Calibre doesn't handle docx embedded images that have been altered by MSWord's image formatting effects and I should modify the images before embedding them? Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining! Calibre is a fantastic piece of software and I don't expect it should cater to every nick-knack MS crams into their bloatware - just asking a question. I really need to make donation soon too, but with the pandemic and all, times are tough.

Method to Convert to HTML/DOCX, adding additional column

Hi all - i am interested in figuring out how to convert epub to HTML (or DOCX) while adding an additional empty column (or table cell) to the output.

In the case of converting to HTML, putting the entire output in a DIV, with a second adjacent (empty) DIV would be the simplest, but creating divs for each paragraph (with side-by-side empty DIV) would be best.
Likewise, converting to DOCX, creating multiple columns, (and rows of columns) with column breaks at paragraphs, with an empty column to the right. I have no idea what 'code' WORD might use to designate columns.

Code:

<Table>
<tr><td>epub text goes here</td><td> &nbsp; </td></tr>
<tr><td>epub text goes here</td><td> &nbsp; </td></tr>
</Table>
or
<DIV id="main">
<DIV id="lt1">epub text goes here</DIV><DIV id="rt1"> &nbsp; </DIV>
<DIV id="lt2">epub text goes here</DIV><DIV id="rt2"> &nbsp; </DIV>
</DIV>

thoughts ?

many thanks

ePub to kePub conversion

Hello,

I use a Kobo Clara HD and exported all my books to it via Calibre

In Calibre I specified ˋSeries´ (Aersospace, Physics, History etc.) so that the big collection is easily manageable.
When merged this metadata into the epub using ˋP´ (forgot what the window is called).

When I upload the epubs to my Kobo reader all Series are visible, and the same as in Calibre, but with ePubs you can not zoom in on pictures.

To overcome this issue I converted all the files to the .kepub format. Now I can click and zoom in on images.

The problem is, none of the specified series is recognised and the section Series on the kobo reader is empty.

Is this normal behaviour, that this part of the metadata is lost in the conversion? Or is there a way to preserve this?

Any help is welcome.

Regards,
Erwin

Extra lines when converting from PDF

I have a lot of e-books that I want to convert to EPUB, primarily from PDF. It's seem that with the default settings there is an blank line at the end of every line of text. I have actives the heuristic processing and set the "Line un-wrap factor" to as high as 0.8, and set it to 0.8 in the PDF Input settings. That helps, but not entirely. There are still extra lines. I have checked the original PDF and this seems to only occur at the end of lines.

There are number of other posts that address this issue, but so far, none of them have solved the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Output Options...Split File...Size

When I am converting from MS Word .docx to EPUB2, I notice that I get a lot of .html files.
Under Preferences > Output Options, I see my "Split files larger than:" is set to 260KB.
  • Where does everyone else set theirs?
  • Is it better to keep it this low?
  • What are the pros-and-cons of larger or smaller files?
  • Can it be set, somehow, to split the files at chapters?
If it's really just a matter of how large of files I want to deal with for cleanup, that's a fine answer too. I just have no clue if there are reasons to choose one way or the other.

Help in converting Kindle book to ePub

Hey there everyone, my apologies if this isn't the correct thread.

I've recently decided to ditch my kindle, and extract my family from the Amazon ecosystem. :)

I bought a Kobo Libra, and am trying to convert my kindle books to ePub. I've gotten almost 100% there, and able to load the books onto the Libra, but am having one (minor) challenge.

All of the books that I convert and load onto the Libra have a very small number, which sequentially increases on the right side of some of the pages. Sometimes it's on the top of the page, sometimes in the middle, sometimes on the bottom. It's not every page. It's not a major problem, but just an irritation. I'd like to figure out how to remove these before I work through my entire library.

I'm assuming that it's a page number setting somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find it in the Calibre settings. Can someone help me find whatever setting is likely responsible for this?

Thank you!!!

Conversion - Request for function

I often change the covers on books when I am editing the metadata.

Changes to covers don't change the book until you exit from editing and run the CONVERT BOOKS function.

Would it be possible to put a CONVERT or UPDATE button on the EDIT page so it could be a choice during editing?

Thank you,

I have no idea where to begin for fixing this.

Example:
»Du willst also deinen Plan ausführen?«
»Allerdings. Ich habe mich vor Monaten dazu entschlossen und meine Meinung nicht geändert.«

It looks like this both on Calibre ebook viewer and Onyx Boox Note 2.

I appreciate the help :thanks:

Are Conversions Lossless?

Just for discussion's sake; if I converted an epub to azw3 and then back again to epub, do I lose any fidelity of formatting?

I originally had my library in epub format but I converted them when I bought a Kindle. Now I'm thinking of switching to a Kobo ereader and will convert my books back to epub.

Amazon forcing me to verify MOBI each time I send - can I get AZW3 for output?

Sorry not sure which forum to use for this one - but I have problem with conversion involving New York Times recipe and trying to send output to Kindle app on an Android device (which has a unique @Kindle.com email address).

I am using latest version 5.9 of Calibre (64-bit) for Windows 10.

I have been using MOBI to fetch New York Times recipe to my Kindle app on Android - I find now that when I send the document, Amazon sends me email requiring me to verify before it will release the document. I believe my email address I am using to send from Calibre is added on Amazon as a valid email for receiving personal documents so not sure why it is now requiring manual verification each time the fetch job is sent to my Kindle email address. Something has changed somewhere.

So now I tried to change default output to AZW3 (Preferences->Interface), but the recipe job log shows it is still only generating MOBI. Is there some other setting so that the Kindle output for a recipe generates as AZW3 instead of MOBI (hoping that will get rid of the Verify message from Amazon).

[PDF to EPUB] Remove dots on every page break?

$

Hi! So after I've converted a book from PDF to EPUB it worked perfectly except for the fact that there are dots on every page break

example:
Code:

page 1 ends
.
.
.
.
page 2 starts

I clicked on edit to see what the code looks like and found it looks like this:
Code:

<p class="calibre1"><a id="p8"></a><img src="index-8_1.png" class="calibre2"/></p>
<p class="calibre1"><img src="index-8_2.png" class="calibre2"/></p>
<p class="calibre1"><img src="index-8_3.png" class="calibre2"/></p>
<p class="calibre1"><img src="index-8_4.png" class="calibre2"/></p>

So I'm assuming the conversion decided to keep the image files from the pdf that were included with each page break. There are some images in the book that I would like to keep and found that the images from the page breaks are each 100 bytes.

Is there a quick way I could search and delete all of these page break images and lines of code?

Maybe something like:
if a line starts with
Code:

<p class="calibre1"><a id="p
delete that whole line and the 3 lines under it.

if that's possible?

I'm trying to convert from epub to pdf but I keep getting an error on deduping of images. Is it possible to just not dedup the images, I know the file size would be larger but at least it would probably convert.

epub to epub: removing hyphens without other changes

$

Hi! I need to remove unnecessary hyphens in an epub3, and have tried the heuristic processing option when converting from epub to epub. It seems that Calibre also edits file structure and contents, leaving the resulting epub3 unusable to my needs.

I have tried to tweak the settings to make Calibre edit just the hyphens, but to no avail. Is there a way to just remove the unnecessary hyphens without editing the entire epub?
